Ireneusz Grulkowski received MSc in Biomedical Physics (2003), MSc in Biotechnology (2005) and PhD in Experimental Physics (2007) from the University of Gdansk (Poland). Dr. Grulkowski was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Nicolaus Copernicus University (NCU, Torun, Poland, 2008-2010) and a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, USA, 2010-2012). Dr. Grulkowski launched Bio-Optics & Optical Engineering Lab, and is currently an Associate Professor at NCU and a Dean's Proxy for Internationalization & Mobility at the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Informatics of NCU. He has authored and coauthored ca. 80 publications, 4 book chapters and over 150 conference presentations. His scientific interests cover application of advanced optical engineering methods in biomedical imaging specializing particularly in development of innovative eye imaging techniques. Grulkowski group collaborates with many research centers in Poland and abroad.
In 2021-2023, Grulkowski has served as a Subcommittee Chair of FiO-LS (FiO6: Optics in Biology, Medicine, Vision and Color). He has also served as a Program Committee Member on a number of international conferences including OSA Latin America Optics & Photonics Conference (2018), Frontiers in Optics (2020), Optica Biophotonics Congress: Biomedical Optics (2024) and several other meetings from the field of optics / photonics and ophthalmology. Grulkowski is highly dedicated to peer review in many scientific journals (300+ reviews completed), and he actively contributes to grant evaluation at different funding agencies like Polish National Science Center (NCN), Foundation for Polish Science (FNP) and Polish National Agency for Scientific Exchange (NAWA). Grulkowski is a lifetime member of Optica and SPIE, and a member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, Photonics Society of Poland and European Association for Vision and Eye Research.
